About

Hi, I’m Hollie

I am so glad you are here. This is the place for all of us who love to learn and think everything looks and tastes better when it comes direct from a local farm. Not to mention that they don’t make things like they used to.

Occasionally I chase down a rouge chicken or several, and put them back into their pasture when they get the nerve to leave. I’ve been known to wrangle a calf or two when the time comes for tagging and castrating. I sometimes get called names, like crazy cat lady. I know it’s not my nine cats calling me that…it’s my two dogs! I wouldn’t listen to them though, they’re just jealous of the snuggles the cats get. All my cats are rescues, just like my dogs. My farm cats play a vital role, organic pest control.

Our Farm

We live on 41-acres in the Watts Bar Lake area of Roane County, Kingston, TN. We are a grass-based diversified livestock farm. We raise Akaushi (Wagyu), South Poll and Guernsey cattle, along with a mixed flock for eggs and meat. We are a direct-to-consumer farm. Our focus is providing high quality, healthy food directly to consumers in our community, with a low-stress life for our animals. We operate using organic and sustainable practices, building healthier soil every year. After all, it all starts with the soil! A different and important black gold. We believe a small family farm can still be a viable and vital business in today’s “modern” world, and that small farms supplying locally grown food to their communities can create a more resilient, healthy, and meaningful system that everyone benefits from. These past few years, have solidified these beliefs. One of which is, you are what you eat.

Bluebird Reserve is a first-generation family farm, named for my three children. Our family believes in keeping the old ways alive, with a modern twist. That food is medicine and should not come in packages with an ingredient lists a mile long you can’t pronounce, not to mention the food dyes. There are some things in life worth doing and worth doing well, food is absolutely one of them.

We like to say we farm creatively by combining traditional farming values with modern ideas. Being rooted in both worlds gives us a broad perspective on farming and the ability to combine new and old techniques in unique and unexpected ways.

Be warned

If you join me on this journey, you’ll quickly find yourself addicted to the slower foods and things life has to offer and maybe collecting mason jars or baskets…because everything looks and tastes better when it comes direct from a local farm. You’ll also find yourself talking about chickens, heirloom seeds, swapping recipes, canning, cider making and filling the pantry with food for winter. We are a part of the local food movement…and it’s growing, won’t you join us!
